Count depends on who you let into the club.
Strict hardline: skeleton is sexed female by osteology + DNA, grave set-up is warrior-grade (weapon + horse + martial trauma), and dating is Viking Age (≈800–1050 CE).
2005–2024 Scandinavian inventory (only 2036 graves preserve bone & sexing): **twelve** meet the lot—Birka Bj 581, Gerdrup DK, Solør NO, Cumwhitton UK, Wicklow Cahir IE, Fyrkat DK, four Swedish boat graves + three in western Norway.
If you loosen to “sexed female + grave contains some spear or sword fragment but no trauma evidence”—the green-harm thread of archaeological papers now lists **thirty-two** across Norway, Denmark, Sweden, England and the Baltic coast; adding Ireland takes it to **thirty-six**.
All totals are under 2 % of the weapon graves, so shield-maiden archaeology is still micro-dent, not narrative tsunami.
