I've previously mentioned the time I had to give a deposition while working at Google. I haven't mentioned one aspect of it.

I don't know legal terminology so please excuse me. But for the case in which I was named I was given a certain legal role as a representative of the company. This came with certain duties - I was responsible for contacting my codefendants and collecting certain information.

Google deliberately waited until the very last moment to tell me this so that it became impossible for me to carry out my duties. They presumably did this to protect their senior staff. It was impossible for me to contact them but I was the one responsible, not the company. At the end of the deposition the lawyer for the other side recorded that I had failed in my duties. Not Google - me personally.

Anyway, two bits of advice:

(1) Lawyers will try to appeal to your pride. But you don't need to prove yourself to them.
(2) It's *you* in court even if you're there because of your employer.
