Well, I'm glad I called the local AAA branch first to confirm that they would be able to process our plate transfer paperwork so I wouldn't have to do it at an RMV branch. Turns out they can't process transfers for sales from out-of-state dealers. So I do in fact have to show up in person at an RMV branch and wait. D'oh.
