And the frustrating thing is that getting past that application stage is just the first half of the journey - getting through the interviewing stage and getting an offer is the other, arguably more difficult, half.
It's a lot different when getting an interview (or even a freakin' screening call from an actual human) was the easy part and stacking one's schedule with interviews was the hard part. These days, it's so much work to just get an interview that it makes the *actual* interview so much less worth it if there's no guarantee that all that work is going to net you an offer, even if it's a lowball one.
It's a ghastly time.
