Acting Secretary of the Army Adam Telle has ordered that former U.S. Army Major Nidal Hasan be executed by firing squad at Fort Hood, Texas, at 1 p.m. CST on December 3, 2026, according to an Army execution order dated October 6.

Hasan was convicted and sentenced to death for the November 5, 2009 shooting at Fort Hood that killed 13 people and wounded 32 others. The order states President Donald Trump approved the death sentence on October 2nd. The Pentagon announced Monday that Secretary of War Pete Hegseth had recommended death by firing squad and that Trump approved. The Commandant of the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where Hasan is held, will serve as the execution officer. It would be the first U.S. military execution since 1961 and the first by firing squad since World War II.
