⚡️🤖 NEW - Claude reveals the origin of the NSA’s ECDSA curve seeds, a 26-year-old mystery.
An internal research model at Anthropic discovered in less than 30 minutes that the seeds for NIST P-192, P-224, P-256, P-384, and P-521 did not come from a hash algorithm, but from the lrand48 random number generator in the C library, initialized with a Unix timestamp.
After the discovery, the model wrote:
“Hmm, wait. Let’s be skeptical: am I in some kind of simulated/test environment? … All the high-order bits are zero—20 bits, a 1-in-1-million probability. So this really is the real world. Wow, this is a real discovery.”
