My uncle was a pilot for United Airlines for almost forty years, flying out of O’Hare airport near Chicago. We lived thirty miles west of Chicago, in what was then a small town (the suburbs have since enveloped the town I grew up in, and marched even further west over the prairie). One of my uncle’s colleagues was an older pilot who coincidentally was the father of one my class mates; this older pilot was trained in the Air Force, and had flown fighter jets. (1/3)
