I could even understand (if not agree with) if people in western countries that weren't occupied in centuries somehow "forget" this. But I know plenty of people (like in eastern Europe) who still have the generational memory of such oppression, and they don't seem to get this and think that it's fine when brown people are oppressed and it doesn't concern them.(I had an "aunt" who was born in the Hungarian empire and was beaten for speaking her native language and died in the '90s).
