The saddest thing is the move, even by tech-savvy users, to socials and other closed platforms, at a time when open platforms are increasingly important.
For the record the https://ForumAstronautico.it community of Italian space enthusiasts has been going on since 2005 and is doing well. Our founder migrated it from phpBB to SMF and then Discourse. One of our users turned from space enthusiast to astronaut: Samantha Cristoforetti.
