We seldom think about how we think. Often, our thoughts follow similar patterns:
in binaries
black-and-white
either/or
focused on the immediate need/want
We forget our thoughts are shaped by our framework of presuppositions, and that we can 'invent' patterns.
We only rarely think ahead about the consequence of our immediate fixes.
Apply this to (geo)politics, elections, etc. and the importance of being aware how we think becomes very clear...
