TIL that Confederate general Raleigh E. Colston nearly died by illness on a Sudan expedition for Khedive Ismael of Egypt in 1874–75 but was saved by a Sudanese woman whom he called his "Black Angel". He returned to America in 1879 and died in Richmond, Virginia in 1896.
