I think the state is something that forms naturally out of the incentives of humans. It always forms out of smaller groups though out history and I am not sure we can avoit it (I also do not like it).
I come from a failed state and let me tell you, it is horrible to live there. Small groups always form to protect themselves, comunities form naturally and invariable the most brutal one takes control, then they fight the other brutal ones from the other gang. Rinse and repeat.
The most peaceful places are those with the more controlling governments. My guess is because they do not oppose the controlling types and eventually gets out of hand.
So far, nobody has figured it out IMO. But there are some places better that other ones, it is our choice to go where we feel more comfortable or to change our own nish.
