I think they are certainly exploring new paradigms for dealing with especially things like context collapse; I think we also need to look back at ideas like G+ circles as ways to deal with some of the "whom can I see/who can see me" questions.

Regardless, we need to be very open-minded about experimenting with new (and old) tools and see what actually works to achieve the types of spaces we want and then be very deliberate about what we implement and use.
