They were mining on the BIP-110 chain. Gave up after the chain stalled out (no new blocks) for several hours. When the chain split, the BIP-110 chain inherited the mining difficulty from the original chain. As a result with so few miners mining on the BIP-110 chain, new blocks will take forever to be mined and the difficulty can’t adjust downward until the next 2016 block difficulty period passes. Their only options are to give up or change the mining algorithm which results in a hard fork (aka, shitcoin).
