The inflation rate of gold isn't the same as the 2% inflation rate central bankers target. The latter is a target for the price of goods (that goods will cost 2% each year, and purchasing power declines). The former is the supply of gold, not purchasing power of gold.
I also think it's a silly development that economists think a 2% target for purchasing power is a good target. It's basically vibe planning the economy.
