Mamdani is a charismatic politician exciting young voters and the sometimes voters who stayed home in 2024. He solidly won the primary. That should be enough for Democrats anywhere.
But beyond that, he’s become a symbol of the pluralist America the fascists oppose, and directly targeted by Trump.
