In the long term, Apple will be forced to adapt or die. Technology is shifting away from closed, gate kept systems, and even the big tech companies will be forced to shift if they want to survive.
My prediction is that within the next 5 years the App Store will be just one of several marketplaces that iPhone users can download native iOS apps.
Apple doesn’t care if a few people switch to android. They have more than enough new customers every year to make up for it. So, instead of switching to android with no real effect besides inconveniencing myself, I’m just going to keep supporting open protocols and open systems until they grow to a point where apple is forced to bend the knee, which is inevitable.
