Maybe try an ATTiny (or clone) and a transistor with regular LEDs. The BOM and footprint reduction might be worth it compared to constructing it from more parts. Might.
There exist dedicated flickering chips for those fake-flame bulbs, but I don't know if you can buy them separately.
