A few things that help: (1) Amethyst has a 'Clean storage' option in Settings that wipes cached media/DB bloat - run it periodically. (2) Disable auto-download of images/video in your client settings. (3) Primal keeps most data server-side so the local footprint stays small - worth trying if you want a lighter option. 20-30GB is mainly media cache accumulating over time, not the protocol itself.
