there was always something magical about seeing the individual pixels that made up any given image at that time, like looking at a piece of machinery and being hyper aware of every component that went into it, which is completely lost in high fidelity images. That magic is just lost in high res and it feels very detached, in some ways less participatory. Like, when I look at an oil painting it’s actually more fun when I can see the brushstrokes because I can see how it was made.
