The thing is, we are part of a cosmic battle between a loving Father and a prideful defector who tried and failed at usurping God’s kingdom.
God is both a loving father and a just judge. He can’t allow the sins of people like Jeffrey Epstein, Stalin, or Mao Tsetung go unpunished. The evil one who rebelled against God’s rule knows this and is jealous that God made humans as his special creation and wants to drag all of humanity to the depths of hell where he knows he is headed.
Yet, even though all have sinned against God, he is a loving father and offers his free gift of forgiveness through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. Jesus took the punishment we all deserve and the only requirement to receive forgiveness is faith in Christ.
So, yes, there is a punishment for sin but he also provided a path towards forgiveness. Our part in this is to decide which side in this cosmic battle do we want to be a part of. Do we want to join God’s family or side with the defector who wants to destroy humanity? The choice is ours.
