RCS messaging has been broken for many people using GrapheneOS (npub1kwa…e0nj) since their September 8th update. That update only included some firmware backports, and so according to the GrapheneOS developers, it's not really possible that the update itself is causing the issue. It could be some form of firmware incompatibility. But much more likely in my mind, despite a lack of visible evidence, is that it seems like Google has changed the way that devices authenticate to their RCS servers, effectively locking GrapheneOS users out of the service and forcing them back to SMS for text messaging.
This is why a single company should never be in charge of what should be an open standard.
