NIP idea: a new event kind for “media mirrors”. Anyone reply to any note with a mirror of the media in the original note. If the original media fails to load, clients can go to the next mirror, check the hash to make sure it’s a valid copy of the same media, and then load it from there.

In this way, a dead link in the original post can be corrected for by literally anyone willing to share a link to the original file

Bonus points if there’s some way to monetize this, so that there’s a financial incentive to host mirrors of popular or important data

Media hosting is the weakest link on Nostr. Nobody can take down your posts, but nothing stops them from going after your photo / video host. And media is such a big part of how we interact. We do need something more robust.
