Seeing posts lamenting the exploding popularity of BS within our community living rent free in the heads of some Fedi users again.
We have to accept that most people do not care one jot about the Fediverse project and FOSS politics. They just want somewhere to hang out and have fun with their friends. You know? Like it USED to be? We here in the Fediverse had a chance to set the weather during Twitter's /first/ blow-up several years ago now, and we failed because too many instance admins behaved (and still behave) like robotic fun-police zealots.
We had the opportunity to prove to the wider community that we're not the geeky elitists they think we are. And we failed.
BS is another corporate platform that is destined to enshitify as they all do over time and then people will move onto the next big thing. Perhaps by that point Fedi mods will have grown up and realised that people do not appreciate being cut off from their entire circle of friends because a mod has a beef with another mod and blocked ALL intra-instance interactions (as opposed to just blocking public-timeline federation and thus allowing individuals with existing "pre-beef" friend networks to at least maintain them within their own home timeline) like a giant manbaby.
I like the Fedi project. I am a friend of it. But sometimes being a good friend means pointing out where we're fucking up. And the lack of emotional-intelligence among too many of our mods is a big fuck up.
