Yes, but the previous spec was retarded and the new one is much better.
I've proposed the change. Pablo, Vitor and Kieran agreed: https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/pull/1704, I didn't know of any other apps doing it, but shouldn't be hard to update. Please change.
