In many cases this amounted to tens of thousands of euros, driving families into severe financial hardship.
The accusations primarily targeted parents of colour and especially single mothers — particularly families with heritage in the former Dutch colonies in the Caribbean 🇧🇶 and 🇸🇷 Suriname. For the parents of more than 2,000 children, the financial and legal chaos even led to loss of custody of their children.
