We just saw the evidence with BIP110. How many nodes outside of the BIP110 crowd said "Hey, the miners ignored them, that's not good. We should fire them and change the proof of work!"
Nearly 0%. So now how many BIP100 nodes defected after the chainsplit? A few. So now less than 20% of the network is just going to start again on a hardforked chain.
My emphasis is on the "just" fire the miners. The JUST is doing a lot of heavy lifting.
