I expected memories to dim slowly with future generations, as direct word of mouth and lived experiences become scarcer and scarcer, slowly but inexorably. Never in my wildest years did I expect the forgetting to come from the very same people who struggled to stay alive during the first year of the pandemic. We are so fucked.
