In Venezuela, the constant daily power outages—lasting up to 10 hours a day without a break—have become an almost unbearable way of life. Working and being productive has become nearly impossible. Every day, many people lose a day’s work, and many businesses have had to lay off their employees because they can’t generate enough revenue to pay their salaries.
Our way of life has changed; we now live with only a few hours of electricity, and there’s no set schedule. Blackouts happen at any time, whether day or night.
It’s a constant source of stress that’s driving many people to the brink of madness; many lose their appliances, and their food spoils. Meanwhile, monthly electricity bills are rising, along with bank fees and taxes that many businesses must pay just to operate. It’s relentless daily pressure, and with each passing day, it gets worse. Life has become unsustainable; we endure the situation as best we can despite the frustration and helplessness of knowing there’s nothing we can do to prevent it.
We’re at the mercy of everything that happens day to day, and it’s very frustrating. Every day is an uphill battle to work, produce, live, and maintain our peace of mind—something that’s becoming impossible. Despair is taking hold of us more and more each day.
