Gossip by Christopher Bram is a novel that feels as relevant today as ever. Set in the early years of the Clinton Administration, the story revolves around Ralph Eckhart and William O'Connor. This is the days of online chat rooms, which figure prominently in the story. While online one night Ralph gets hit on by O'Connor, and eventually decides to meet him in Washington where Bill works. Ralph likes everything about Bill until Bill reveals himself to be a closeted conservative. At first Ralph manages to convince himself he can overlook this until something occurs that he considers a total betrayal. Despite Bill's efforts to convince Ralph they can get past this, Ralph decides to totally cut him off. But Bill's continued efforts to make amends pale in comparison to what comes next.
