in general i'd say it's politically progressive/well-meaning about a range of topics incl queer stuff, racism and the plight of the "transgenics", even if handled clumsily (i.e. there's a trans themed episode with an actual trans actress but they deadname her in some dialogue). in this regard it seems slightly ahead of its time as a tv show that was targeted at a mainstream audience (iirc it wasn't as successful as they hoped though) but at the same time it seems outdated from today's perspective. in any case i personally find it quite fascinating/amusing as a cultural artefact and guilty pleasure at the same time, ymmv.
