The main disconnect for a lot of people is that they think if a company's founder/majority shareholder has a high net worth, then that company should be paying it's employees more. There's several layers of misunderstand at play there.
Net worth is usually primarily stock ownership not cash in a bank account.
Stock valuation is not revenue is not profit.
Supply of and demand for labor sets the price of labor, not the CEO.

That last misunderstanding is my favorite. Nobody considers themselves greedy when they buy something on sale and don't offer to pay more, but they think it's greed when an employer buys labor for however cheap they can buy it in the labor market.
