I cannot overstate how bad it will be for games as a creative medium if "time played" becomes the dominant metric by which success is measured. It will be a Dark Age for every creative person working in this field.
And the more the industry consolidates and platform holders' power grows, the more likely this becomes. I am more worried about this than any other topic in games right now.
