In the post on the story there is no mention of Russia's income.
Their income is shrinking with little hope of recovering as long as the price for fossil fuels spikes up drastically.
I personally do not think that the Russian people will long put up with having to live like North Koreans so I wouldn't bet on Putin surviving to the U.S. inauguration if the elections don't go his way, but no way to know in such an opaque country for sure.
