The gain is short term. The consequences are long term.
Like building on a Flood Plain to address housing shortages.
In the long term we should address the inequality that drives migration

The UK is a expensive country to live.
The reality for poor people in the UK is not improved with more poor people competing for poverty wages, or with more wealthy people to expand the divide between rich and poor.
Unfortunately, making rich people poorer is unpopular with rich people who don't want to be less rich, and also with poor people hoping they can escape the poverty they find themselves in.

I favour reversing the Small State that has created a wealthy few with power no one person should have.
