a few reasons:<li>the media can be permanently cached on my service, allowing for me to still have the music no matter what happens</li><li>adding new music doesn't require going and finding a torrent for it or buying the music</li><li>if I want to, I can buy the music and then add it as a local file and use that instead of the remote one</li><li>it makes it much easier to discover new stuff</li><li>my library can have both local media as well as media from an external service</li>
