I think about this a lot, actually. I wonder what it will be like 50 years from now, when it'll be possible to look back on photos taken today and see them in full, high-resolution color.

I don't doubt that recording technology 50 years from now will be unimaginably better, but I do think the gap in quality will be smaller than, say, between today's photos and those from the 60s/70s.

History will probably feel a lot closer in the future. Maybe then we'll pay attention to it.
