It’s neat that there are rules that help with recognizing similar words between French, Spanish and English. These are two I recently found out about:

• French “gu” → English “w”: guêpe → wasp, Guillaume → William, guerre → war, guarde-robe → wardrobe,
• French/Latin “f” → Spanish “h”: fer → hierro, faire → hacer, fille → hija, feuille → hoja, frère → hermano
