I was sitting in the front row directly across from jack (nprofile…nj96) at Nostriga (or maybe Baltic Honey Badger, they were back to back).

I had been hearing "Verify, don't trust" over the previous year as I dove deeper into Bitcoin and Nostr, but I hadn't actually grasped what it really meant.

Then, while talking about open source, Jack said something like:

"That's why it's called verify, don't trust. You can verify the code."

And the 💡 lightbulb went on:

"Ohhhhh... it's verify the CODE!!" 💧

Ahhhhhhh! OK!! Got it!!!!

"Verify, don't trust" suddenly wasn't just an abstract slogan anymore.

It clicked.

Don't rely on promises or reputation when you can inspect what the software actually does.

Verify. Don't trust. 💡
