There were two things that made America the economic powerhouse that it is. One was the innovation and hard work we got from immigration. The other was the enormous federal spending on science independent of its potential immediate relevance, which generated novel innovations. The key to both of these is the huge long-term gains, which manifest over the time-line of decades.
The current administration couldn't be doing more damage to the US if they actually were traitors and quislings.
