I had a bizarre exchange with a client around this concept. She works on the local state teachers board (or something) and I made the mistake of asking her how much federal politics influences local politics. She complained that this current administration does all these things that make it harder for her and her job. So I said, “Yeah the federal government has too much influence on the local/state level.” But somehow she concluded that my perspective was a myth pushed by our current administration..? She then proceeded with the stereotypical white liberal woman approach of debate by throwing a bunch of unrelated nonsense about Russia and racism into the conversation while also trying to change the subject whenever I tried to keep the conversation on track with the original topic. I pray for these individuals but I haven’t seen her since and I’m okay with that.
