I left the Democratic Party last July after Biden dropped out. I saw too many Democratic leaders, consultants, and pundits push for a contested convention without providing key details about how it might work. It seemed they knew who they wanted as the nominee, and it was not VP Harris.
I realized that while they talk about policies that are aligned with Democratic values and priorities, there was a disconnect. I believe that by reregistering as an independent, the Democratic Party would be forced to actually sell itself.
This article is focused on the Democrats fretting after Mamdani's win. But I suggest that it should be centered around Democrats not being able to understand that Cuomo might lose. A young Muslim with very progressive ideas beat an old disgraced politician who resigned as governor after sexual harassment claims were made public.
Democratic leadership needs to take note: If you don't want the young non-Christian socialists to win, put up a good candidate.
