A PIA flight flying from Multan Airport to Lahore left for its last journey in the Suraj Miani area near the airport a few minutes after takeoff.
Eyewitnesses say that the air hostesses on the flight had jumped to save their lives.
The afternoon of July 10, 2006 brought a tragic moment to Multan that plunged the entire city into mourning. PIA flight PK-688 from Multan to Lahore and Islamabad crashed moments after takeoff, and all 45 people on board were martyred.
This accident was not only the loss of 45 lives
Multan and Pakistan also lost many of its famous personalities. The martyrs included Justice Muhammad Nawaz Bhatti, Justice Nazir Ahmed Siddiqui, Professor Dr. Abdul Rauf Sheikh, renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Iftikhar Ali Raja, Dr. Muhammad Naseer Khan and three military officers including two brigadiers of the Pakistan Army.
20 years have passed since this tragedy, but this wound in the heart of Multan is still fresh today. Some accidents do not just become a part of history, but live forever in the memory of generations. This accident extinguished the lights of many homes, left many dreams unfulfilled, and brought tears to countless eyes forever.
We pay tribute to all the martyrs, pray for their elevation to higher ranks, and salute the patience and perseverance of their families.
May Allah Almighty forgive all the martyrs completely, grant them a high place in Paradise, and grant patience to the bereaved families. Amen.
