Can you separate Islam from politics?
In Islam the head of the religion is also the head of the state. His mission is to spread Islam to all other nations. Any land that is not under Islamic rule is called "land of war". Signifying that Muslims must wage war against the people of this land until they are subjected to Islam.
This is not an extremist interpretation of Islam. This is not political Islam. This is the political theory given by Muhammad and is a belief of every Muslim believer.
