they kind of have a point in that america doesnt really have a distinctive identity the way european and asian countries do. its just an insane melange of various immigrant groups most of whom arrived just a few generations ago
in europe you can drive fifteen minutes and be at a thousand year old church and read about how it was used to store weapons to defend against the vikings or whatever. in contrast most of the US basically didnt exist 200 years ago, and much of the west didnt exist even 100 years ago
