in fact it's probably not all that hard to do, using bimetallic strips and heating elements to form a kind of thermal relay. indeed, these are often used in old school toasters (see [@TechConnectify](https://mas.to/@TechConnectify )'s videos, esp. the one on the Sunbeam)
