Online dating exacerbated this problem so much. Because women get attention from a hundred men, and men give attention to a hundred women. So women will have repeated unfulfilling interactions with guys who really don't care about them very much.
It gives women the illusion that they can have their choice of men, and sets everyone up for repeated disappointment.
If all the single people could just get in the same room together, and everybody pick somebody, this would all work itself out.
