So many consequences. Children growing up with a parent(s), working longer hours as they try to keep a roof over their heads. All the obvious difficulties in paying bills, buying food and so on.

Constant guilt at not having enough time for the child(ren). As a single parent since my child was four, this has touched a nerve. Not news to me, but a painful reminder of the exhausting juggling act.

And then now there’s the consequences for pensions. Poverty (and cold) in older age.
