Offhand thoughts.
I've been going through PG Wodehouse's now seldom-read early juvenile novels. They're mostly terrible, but by about the fifth of, I believe, seven... he's not bad! Not funny, but you care about the characters, they're more differentiated, and the action is well-described. It occurred to me that if he were alive today he might be doing some kids' series in whatever genre would sell best.
