Iran first counterattacks were against American bases along its borders. They have since then systematically destroyed them. This hasn’t still filtered through the American population. There is no going back to status quo. Those bases can’t be defended so they won’t be rebuilt.

Crazy part is, the US military did not see this as a possibility.
